Homemade Dog Treats: Sweet Potato Dog Treats with Crunchy Toppings

You may have noticed that some dog food recipes include ingredients like sweet potatoes. That’s because sweet potatoes are a good source of potassium, fiber, vitamins C and A. Sweet Potato Dog Treats with Crunchy Toppings

Ingredients:

1 Large sweet potato (about 1 to 1.5 cup)

2 Cups of flour (white or whole wheat)

2 Eggs, beaten

1/3 Cup of peanut butter

Directions:

1. Wash and peel the sweet potato. Boil until it’s tender and soft, about 12 minutes.
2. Drain and let the potato cool.
3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
4. Line a baking pan or two with parchment paper.
5. In a medium bowl, mix the flour, eggs, peanut butter and mashed sweet potato until completely combined. If it’s too dry add a few teaspoons of water. If the mixture is too wet, add some flour.
6. Roll the dough on a nonstick surface using a rolling pin until it’s ¼” thick.
7. Use a cookie cutter to create winter dog treat shapes that look like bone, or stars or trees to get into the holiday spirit. You could also make small rectangular treats or use a can to make circles. Dip the cookie cutter into flour if the dough is sticking to it.

9. Bake the homemade winter dog treats for 15 minutes. If you want a harder treat for your pup, let them crisp for another 4 to 5 minutes.
